OPTICAL SERVICES

THE OPTICAL WORKSHOP

When vision correction is needed, our on-site optical workshop allows us to make and fit eyeglasses directly at the center.
The lenses are measured, cut and precisely fitted to suit each patient’s facial features and chosen frame. Specialized tools are also available to adjust and repair eyeglasses, ensuring comfort in everyday use.
Having these services on site helps reduce waiting times and provide patients with a fast and effective solution, particularly in areas where access to optical services is limited.
Precision Equipment for Vision Correction Tailored to Each Patient
African Sight Center’s optical workshop is equipped with professional equipment for accurately measuring, making and fitting eyeglasses. This comprehensive range of equipment ensures that each patient receives reliable, comfortable vision correction tailored to their individual needs.
Measuring Vision Accurately

Before making a pair of eyeglasses, it is essential to determine the required vision correction accurately.

Our workshop uses several specialized devices:

  • An automatic lensmeter measures the optical power of lenses and verifies that they meet the required prescription.
  • A pupillometer measures the distance between the pupils to ensure that the lenses are correctly positioned.
  • A trial lens set and trial frames allow different corrections to be tested directly with the patient.
  • A digital measuring column is used to take the measurements required for progressive lenses and ensure they are adapted to each patient.
  • The Kaleidos Mobile Vision Analyzer is an innovative mobile device that assesses vision under real-life viewing conditions, measuring both eyes simultaneously.

These tools provide the accurate measurements required for effective vision correction.

Making and Fitting Eyeglasses

Once the measurements have been taken, the lenses are prepared and fitted into the chosen frame.

The workshop is equipped with:

  • Automatic and manual lens edging machines to cut lenses to the required shape.
  • Frame tracers and scanners to accurately reproduce the geometry of each frame.
  • Drilling and grooving machines for specific types of frames, including semi-rimless and rimless frames.
  • An optical polishing machine to improve the finish of the lenses.
  • Adjustment tools including pliers, vises and repair equipment.

This equipment enables us to produce customized eyeglasses precisely fitted to each frame and each patient.

Adjusting and Repairing Eyeglasses for Greater Comfort

Comfort is essential when wearing eyeglasses every day.

Our workshop therefore has:

  • Frame heaters for adjusting plastic frames.
  • Repair equipment to extend the life of eyeglasses.
  • Precision tools to adjust how the frames sit on the patient’s face.

Each pair is individually adjusted to ensure a secure fit and optimal comfort.

An Efficient Organization Focused on Patient Care

The workshop is also organized to ensure an efficient and timely service:

  • Work trays for organizing individual orders.
  • Display cases for presenting available frames.

This organization helps reduce waiting times while improving the quality of service provided to patients.

OPTOMETRIC EQUIPMENT AND RESOURCES

Technology Supporting Better Vision

At African Sight Center, high-quality care relies on an essential combination: medical expertise and modern equipment suited to local needs and conditions.

Our center is equipped to diagnose, treat and correct visual disorders, using reliable tools that enable us to provide comprehensive patient care.

Understanding Your Vision Accurately

The first step toward effective treatment is an accurate diagnosis.

We use specialized equipment to assess vision simply and reliably.

Our measuring instruments help determine the correction required, identify refractive errors and detect certain eye abnormalities. Some of our mobile equipment can even perform examinations under conditions close to everyday vision and can be used outside the center during community screening programs.

These examinations are quick, painless and essential for identifying the solution best suited to each patient.

Our clinic uses several specialized devices:

  • An automatic lensmeter measures the optical power of lenses and verifies that they meet the required prescription.
  • A pupillometer measures the distance between the pupils to ensure correct lens positioning.
  • The Kaleidos Mobile Vision Analyzer is an innovative mobile device that assesses vision under real-life viewing conditions, measuring both eyes simultaneously.

These tools provide the precise measurements needed to determine the appropriate vision correction.

Detecting Eye Diseases

Beyond vision correction, our equipment also helps identify major eye diseases.

Healthcare professionals can examine the structures of the eye, assess how it functions and detect conditions such as cataracts, glaucoma and certain retinal diseases.

Early detection is essential to prevent eye conditions from worsening and to reduce the risk of vision loss.

Bringing Eye Care to Patients

Because access to healthcare remains a major challenge, some of our equipment has been specifically designed to be mobile.

This allows ASC to organize screening and consultation campaigns within local communities, particularly in remote areas.

By bringing eye care closer to patients, this approach facilitates early diagnosis and enables visual disorders to be treated more quickly.
